Join Our Team: Peer...

We’re recruiting a full-time Peer Welfare Benefits Advisor

Full-Time. £28,500 per year.

Contract, Until 31st March 2022, extendable for a further two years subject to confirmation of funding

Closing date: 09 August 2021, but apply now as we’ll be scheduling interviews as the applications come in.

Are you a welfare benefits advisor with at least one year’s experience?  Do you have lived experience of disability, which could include mental health issues or a long term condition?  Would you like to work for a thriving Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation delivering an inclusive and person centred service, using your own lived experience to inform the way you support our customers?

We are looking for an enthusiastic peer welfare benefits advisor to join our busy but friendly and supportive Touchpoint Team.  Touchpoint is a holistic support service for disabled people – we include deafness, physical or sensory disability, mental health issues, learning difficulty and long-term health conditions. We work with people who feel support from other organisations does not meet their needs.  The goal of our service is not to solve all of the issues that people are facing ourselves, but to work with them to overcome life’s challenges together, and linking in with other activities or services that are best placed to help. The goal of our services is to support people to hold those relationships confidently themselves by supporting them in overcoming disabled barriers.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and experienced welfare benefits advisor who understands the social model of disability, peer support and person-centred practice; is committed to reflexively using their own lived experience to translate those values into their own everyday practice; and has an understanding of the barriers disabled people face to get the right outcomes from advice services.

You will have at least one year’s relevant work experience, good, contemporary knowledge of the benefits system and an ability to work in an empowering way. You will provide a service which helps people access their entitlements, particularly those who face barriers in accessing mainstream services – e.g. because they need a home visit, extra time, or a time slot that works around their capacities.

In return, you will become part of a happy and motivated team, working within a focused but flexible culture, where diversity is valued and you can bring your whole self to work.

The contract until 31st March 2022 in the first instance, but we are currently applying for further funding which would, if successful, secure the role until March 2024.

To apply, please submit your CV and a brief covering letter explaining how you would use your lived experience of disability, which could include mental health issues or a long term condition, to inform your work, as well as detailing your welfare benefits experience and why you would like to work for Inclusion Barnet.
