Black History Month 2023

Get involved – apply for funding by 21 August 2023  

Community organisations can apply for £500 – £1,000 to host an event or activity in Barnet to celebrate Black History Month during October 2023.

Black History Month is a month dedicated to celebrating communities and culture all around the world. This year’s theme is ‘celebrating our sisters’.

This year we will be marking Black History Month with a range of events, and local registered community groups can now apply to the council for funding to support activities for this year’s Black History Month.

Community Events Fund

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and applicants will be notified of the outcome within four weeks of the submission date.

Barnet Council’s vision is to make Barnet a ‘Borough of Fun’, where those who live and work have opportunities to enjoy life and celebrate the things that are important to them. Community Groups can apply for up to £1,000 throughout the year to host an event with their community. Applicants should apply at least 4 weeks before the event.

Barnet VCFSE Ukrainian Support Grant
Open Now. Ongoing Expressions of Interest (EOI)

Barnet based VCFSE organisations can apply for funding to support work with Ukrainian guests and hosts in Barnet. Funding via Barnet Community Fund.

Area Committee Funding from Barnet Council

Each of the three wards (east, west and north) has £400,000 a year for community projects, they tend to favour capital projects ie items or building redevelopment.
You can find notes to past meetings via the links below, which will show you what has been funded and to what value. You may also spot an organisation you know, and can gain further insights on the process from them.

What you need to do…

  1. Find your local Barnet Councillor
  2. Find your Councillors contact details and what committees they sit on,this will give you an idea of what interests they may have.
  3. Invite your local councillors to see your work/project in action, and discuss with them your needs.
  4. Each Councillor can take forward one application to the area committee meetings: The next meetings are in June 2023: check here for dates.
  5. If they agree to take your application forward, you will work with them to complete a form/provide background information to support their ‘sponsorship’ of the application.

Key information:

Summer Delivery: 16 days of minimum 4 hours of delivery between  24th July and 1st September 2023

Winter Delivery: 4 days of minimum 4 hours of delivery between 27th December 2023 and 5th January 2024
