Job Title: Head of Community Services

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Location: Barnet, NW9, London

Salary: £43,000 per year

Contract: Until 31st March 2023 (with strong prospect of becoming permanent)

Closing date: 9 October 2021

Inclusion Barnet delivers both services for disabled people and services for the wider Barnet community.  This role will lead on the community element of our offer.

We’re looking for someone to lead on delivery of our voluntary sector support activity, working as part of our successful Barnet Together partnership with Young Barnet Foundation and Groundwork London.  As well as attending senior meetings as the representative of the voluntary sector and leading sector groups, you’ll lead on developing our membership offer and making sure this is communicated to community groups.  You’ll also be working collaboratively with wider system partners to implement the voluntary sector manifesto and ensure they understand the sector’s capabilities.  Alongside this, you’ll have responsibility for oversight of our Healthwatch and Partnership Libraries contracts, ensuring that these services thrive and develop.  You won’t be doing this on your own – with four direct reports and an overall team of eight, this role involves managing managers and providing leadership across the services to take them to the next level.

To do this, you’ll need to be able to think strategically and creatively; manage in a supportive and collaborative style, and deliver at pace.  A confident presenter, excellent relationship-builder and a reflective professional, you’ll be excited by the challenge and keen to build on the success of these services to date.

This is a challenging but varied and rewarding role, and you will be able to make a real impact for the sector.  You will become part of a friendly and supportive team, working within a focused but flexible culture, where diversity is valued and you can bring your whole self to work.  Whilst it is initially a fixed term contract to March 2023, we hope to be able to confirm it as a permanent role within the next 12 months.  Through your excellent work, you’ll help us make that a reality.

As a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation (DDPO), we always welcome applications from disabled candidates, but lived experience of disability is not essential for this role.  However, the successful candidate will need a commitment to the social model of disability and a passion for thriving, inclusive communities.  They will also be willing to think strategically about how we reflect our identity as a DDPO in our portfolio of communities work.

The role will be entirely home based during Covid, but the successful candidate must be able to be based in our Colindale office in the future and travel to meetings around the Borough of Barnet.  Whilst it is ultimately a Barnet-based role, we anticipate that there will continue to be regular opportunities for home working going forward, and we encourage flexible working to suit your work preferences where possible.  We also operate a Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) system.

To apply, please submit your CV with a brief covering letter clearly stating how you meet the person specification.

The successful candidate must be willing to undergo a DBS check and have the right to work in the UK.

Application Instructions: We support anonymous recruitment. This means hiding your personal identifying information, removing bias from the hiring process. Please submit your application via the Charity Jobs Website
