Into Sport is a London wide project involving seven organisations led by Inclusion London. At Inclusion Barnet we offer free motivational induction this includes researching local accessible facilities and events.
The aim of the project is to increase peoples’ physical activity and encourage them to regularly sustain this increase. Sport and Physical Activity (SPA) can mean taking a walk, gardening, relaxation breathing, martial arts, dance, team sports as it is a human rights issue that disabled people are given the opportunity to engage in SPA.
We have set up a borough wide Disability Sport Network involving Barnet Council, Middlesex University, London Sport, Saracens, GLL/Better, Barnet Mencap and many more local organisations. The aim of the network is to work together locally and provide accessible opportunities.
John McCafferty, member of the Into Sport Steering Committee says “Health plus enjoyment equals sport and we will encourage you to start or increase activity or to try something new!”
One participant says “I have found social, spiritual and emotional wellbeing as well as improving my mental and physical health. I feel I am doing something that is good for me.”
