Library Manager, Inclusion Barnet
Permanent role, £30,000 per year
35 hours per week Tuesday – Saturday
Are you passionate about public libraries?
We are a voluntary organisation in Barnet, North London and we are about to take over the running of two branch libraries as community-based ‘partnership libraries’, working with the London Borough of Barnet.
We are looking for a proactive and committed librarian to manage and develop the two libraries. They will function as community hubs where a range of information, advice, and well-being services and activities will be delivered. You’ll provide leadership to a team of casual library assistants, volunteers and a community development worker to deliver a service that provides residents with activities, opportunities and effective signposting as well as books and information. You’ll be deft at the mechanics of service management and making the wheels turn smoothly, but beyond that you’ll relish the challenge of working with your colleagues in the wider organisation to develop a new and innovative offer for libraries.
Inclusion Barnet believes that libraries have great potential to use their rich information resources as a vehicle for positive community interventions and social support. As a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation working across both libraries and social care, we’re well placed to realise it. We want to work in an empowering way with residents and communities to increase resilience and interconnectedness, and you’ll be the lynchpin making sure the core library service delivers and connects with this enhanced offer.
If you are you one of those visionary library professionals who sees libraries as a vehicle for making your corner of the world a better place, who is passionate about community development and diversity as well as excellent library management, then this is the opportunity for you.
In return we can offer an attractive salary, a positive and inclusive working environment and a warm and supportive team around you, including a CEO with a background in library management. You’re probably already qualified and/or a Chartered Librarian, but we will also consider candidates with the right experience and attitude and can support the successful applicant to Charter if required.
